In the world of healthcare, certain topics often carry a gendered stigma. Pelvic floor health, unfortunately, falls into this category, with many assuming it’s solely a concern for women. However, the truth is far from this misconception. Pelvic floor issues affect people of all genders, and the benefits of pelvic floor therapy extend well beyond stereotypes.

In this post, we’re breaking down barriers and challenging the myths surrounding pelvic floor therapy with the powerful testimonial of a male patient. His journey not only sheds light on the importance of pelvic floor health for everyone but also emphasizes the transformative impact of therapy in reclaiming control, confidence, and quality of life. Be inspired by Jeremy’s story and discover why pelvic floor therapy isn’t just for women.

“Working with Tara at Desert Pelvic Therapy was completely life-changing! For context, I am a Male and 27 years old, young and healthy.  It was Dec ’21 at the time when I began experiencing extreme discomfort in my pelvic region, seemingly out of nowhere. The pain persisted for months on end without resolution. I was extremely confused about where this pain and tightness/burning sensation in my pelvic region had come from. It was hard to urinate without straining and my mind was fixated on the burning pain/tight golf ball sensation 24/7 while awake. This made it so I was unable to do physical activities that I loved, have intimate relations, and live my life to the fullest.  At first, I thought it was a bladder infection or a serious sexually transmitted disease of some sort. Over the next several months, I tried everything you can think of to diagnose and eliminate the pain; stretches, antibiotics, cystoscopy, pelvic scans, and much more. With medical expenses adding up and all results coming back negative, but the symptoms are still very much real. I was left with no answers to show and back to square one, time and time again. It’s worth noting I had also tried about 2-3 other pelvic floor specialists for several months, without realizing any real benefits at all. It’s almost like they didn’t know what they were treating or how to target the pain correctly.

It was only a year later into my mysterious pain that I stumbled across the Desert Pelvic website via a family member who was researching on my behalf. Funny enough, I was reading a review very similar to what you’re reading right now. What jumped out to me was the fact that Tara could specialize in male patients and the overwhelming positive feedback that was provided. Reading someone’s testimony that so closely described what I was going through was so comforting. Figuring I had nothing to lose, I scheduled a consultation and was quickly scheduled to meet with Tara to discuss a plan. Tara was not only extremely empathetic and understanding of my pain and frustration, but she was also knowledgeable in creating a treatment plan and putting my mind at ease. What separates Tara from the other experiences I had is that she uniquely understands where to focus her treatments specific to the symptoms I was describing, her ability to listen to my concerns, and her amazing ability to understand the pelvic floor. Yes, for males especially!

Fast-forward to the present day, after working with Tara for about 6 months (although I experienced some relief after just a few sessions), I am living completely pain-free again and no longer need any weekly physical therapy appointments. Tara as an individual was extremely comforting, knowledgeable at her job and explaining the purpose for each exercise and activity, as well as a great all-around human being. It was like hanging out with a friend for an hour each week. To anyone looking for answers on their pelvic pain, I cannot recommend her enough! If you are on the fence, frustrated and confused about your pain, at the very least schedule a consultation to check it out. She helped get my life back on track and I’m confident she will do the same for you!” -Jeremy
